New water jet unit for Zone 2 use
Jetstream Europe has unveiled a new ultra high pressure water jetting unit, which is designed for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas.
Suitable for operation on production platforms and drill rigs for a wide variety of maintenance tasks including surface preparation, coating removal, cleaning pipes and tanks, the compact unit is supplied on a skid either with an easily detachable crash frame or housed in a robust container.
It boasts a Jetstream 3000 Series pump, which delivers a flow rate of up to 89 litres a minute at 550 bar and 19 litres a minute at 2750 bar. The pump incorporates a patented UNx fluid end, which makes it simple to switch between operating pressures from 40k psi to 15k or 20k psi in less than 20 minutes.
It is powered by a 125 hp, air start, 4 cylinder diesel engine which has a speed of 2200 rpm and runs independently once started. Other features include a hydraulic shut-off system and a gear reducer drive, meaning no requirement for belts. Electric versions are also available.
According to Jetstream Europe, servicing the equipment is quick and easy with minimal downtime and no need for special tools or mechanical skills.
"Anyone familiar with water jetting knows that the biggest challenges are maintenance and equipment downtime. All water jet pumps have wearing parts, which require replacement from time to time.
"However, servicing a Jetstream pump regardless of its pressure rating takes only a few minutes compared to some models which can take one or two days and require a knowledgeable mechanic with specialist tools," explained Danny Monaghan, Jetstream Europe's UK technical and operations manager.
